Reconnaissance Systems within the Imagery Programs Division provides technical support to National Space Systems across the entire spacecraft acquisition and operations cycle. The Vehicle Engineering Division is responsible for overseeing acquisition, development, delivery, and integration of the spacecraft bus, which includes bus system engineering, bus hardware and software design, development and test, requirements sell-off, and vehicle level integration and test. The Reconnaissance Systems Office is looking for a motivated and high-energy Bus Electronics Engineer/Senior Bus Electronics Engineer to support development of the spacecraft power sub-system and other hardware as needed. In this position the Bus Electronics Engineer will apply personal and engineering matrix expertise to meet dynamic customer needs in a fast-paced environment.


  • Provide technical expertise for bus electronics and power sub-system development including system engineering and programmatic assessments and independent studies
  • Support bus hardware verification and validation planning, integration and test activities.
  • Review and evaluate contractor designs, analyses, performance parameters, development status and integration and test plans for bus hardware.
  • Identify and direct potential innovative and risk reduction activities within the program office and in collaboration with the Aerospace engineering matrix.
  • Actively participate in contractor integrated product teams involved in the design and build of the spacecraft power distribution sub-system
  • Identify programmatic and technical risks related to bus hardware. Communicate risks to the Customer and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support definition and flowdown of requirements for bus units, assess requirements for proper allocation and feasibility.
  • Serve as a key technical contributor on milestone readiness review teams and provide impartial technical assessments to milestone decision authorities
  • Liaison with customer team by building effective working relationships, including frequent communication, briefings, and technical discussion, influence successful program execution and assure mission success.
  • Actively participate in contractor integrated product teams involved in the design and build of bus electronic units


  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, scientific, or related field from a recognized institution
  • Current TS/SSBI
  • This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


For the Bus Electronics Engineer:
  • 8 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering or scientific experience
  • Experience in design, build, integration and test of electronic space flight hardware.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and to function in mixed teams comprised of customer, contractor and corporate personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate solutions and recommendations with the Aerospace and Customer team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to edit technical content for clarity; ability to present clear, concise briefings; ability to write well-crafted reports and assessments
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership in addressing technical issues.
  • Ability to identify and communicate technical and schedule risk
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other Aerospace and vendor, subcontractor, or contractor facilities

In addition to the above, the Senior Bus Electronics Engineer must have:
  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering or scientific experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as lead teams comprised of Aerospace, Contractor, and Customer personnel.
  • Experience in spacecraft power systems engineering, design, integration and test.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead corporate matrix support capabilities

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering or scientific field
  • Experience in spacecraft power systems engineering, design, integration and test.
  • Experience with applying relevant standards and guidelines (like AIAA-S-122) to design and build of spacecraft power and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft control electronics (processor and memory)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, complete tasks on short deadlines, and solve ill-defined problems
  • Program office experience in the acquisition, design, build, integration and test of spacecraft bus hardware.
  • Experience with design, analysis, test, and sell-off of flight hardware for space systems
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead corporate matrix support capabilities
  • Experience with National Space Systems, and their associated missions.
  • Exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and personal initiative
