Payroll Specialist

Our client, located in the DC/Metro Area, is looking for a dynamic Payroll Specialist to work closely with staff and senior management to coordinate all supporting functions related to the payroll process, corresponding provider software, and plan-sponsored benefit plans.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Payroll Specialist will process semi-monthly payroll in a timely manner and direct deductions to proper channels
  • Appropriately operate payroll software and act as point-of-contact for software-related issues
  • The Payroll Specialist will review business-related expense accounts and reporting to ensure all payments are funding from proper sources and with correct authorization
  • The Payroll Specialist will prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability (if applicable), and nontaxable wages
  • Upload investment options file and submit ACH payments to third-party provider and plan-sponsor websites (ex. 401(k) and HSA/FSA plans)
  • The Payroll Specialist will reconcile payroll and benefits entries and maintain related general ledgers
  • Process garnishments, notifying proper authorities of changes or updates as applicable
  • The Payroll Specialist will balance state unemployment insurance taxation and maintain payment records

  • 3+ Years' experience in payroll accounting (or related experience)
  • Communicate effectively with all members of staff regarding payroll
  • Keep all information confidential, acting with definite tact and professionalism
  • Display strong attention to detail and an ability to focus under pressure
