HR Generalist

HR Generalist Description:

  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance
  • Recruits, interviews, and helps to select employees to fill vacant positions
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude towards company goals
  • Keeps records of benefits plans participation, personnel transactions, such as: hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting
  • Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization
  • Administers salary administration programs to ensure compliance and equity within organization
  • Administers benefits programs such as medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, PTO, leave of absence, and employee assistance
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier
  • Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separation
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of company and personnel information
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization
  • Adheres to company attendance standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

HR Generalist Requirements:
  • Must have project management skills and strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be creative and have innovative writing ability, including proofreading and editing for grammar and punctuation
  • Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Must be able to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, workers' compensation, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including: the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws (where applicable): Title VII, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA, ERISA, and NLRA
  • Must be proficient using software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

HR Generalist Necessary Education and/or Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience as a HR Generalist
  • Must have demonstrated experience with full-cycle recruiting and favorable candidate selection
  • Experience responding to unemployment claims (multi-state), workers comp claims and medical leave
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline from four-year college or university required of HR Generalist applicants
  • Knowledge of HR operations and administration required of applying HR Generalists
  • Knowledge of HR-related state and federal regulations required (multi-state preferred) for HR Generalist candidates
