Overview

AbleVets, A Cerner Company, provides healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced Linux Administrator to support information technology projects for our customers. The position will be based on site at our customer’s facility in Charleston, SC.

Responsibilities

The Linux Administrator performs the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. The ideal candidate will plan and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware and operating systems and applications software.  Additional roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage accounts and network rights
  • Manage systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability Implement security procedures and tools
  • Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures
  • Resolve significant hardware/software interface and interoperability problems
  • Ensure systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency
  • Maintain systems configuration
  • Manage the installation and integration of system fixes, updates, and enhancements
  • ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices Plan and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware and operating systems and applications software

  • Ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices
  • Installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of RHEL based systems
  • Day to day support operations maintaining security patches on all RHEL based systems
  • Day to day support operations maintaining the VMware ESXi virtual environment
  • Day to day support operations providing configuration updates to meet user requirements on all RHEL systems and services

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and zero (0) years of experience. An additional three (3) years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirement
  • DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience as a Linux (primarily RHEL) Administrator performing the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems
  • Must be able to obtain the following certifications within 90 days of hire:
    • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification
    • 8570 CSSP Infrastructure Support Certification
    • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent experience in Unix/Linux systems administration
  • Experience with user account management and associated DoD security practices
  • Experience maintaining compliance of RHEL based systems using STIGS or CIS
  • Knowledge of virtualization concepts as well as industry best practices to include virtualization technologies and management tools
  • Experience with chassis/blade/storage system hardware configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • System performance benchmarking and analysis in VMware ESXi virtual environments
  • Experience with user account management and associated DoD security practices.
  • Understanding of essential network services such as DNS, SMTP, NTP, IMAP, and SNMP

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of hands on experience as a Linux (primarily RHEL) Administrator performing the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems
  • Experience with shell scripting, Perl, Python
  • Experience with the Puppet Labs or SaltStack configuration management system
  • Experience with kick starting RHEL installs
  • Experience with NetApp storage arrays
  • Knowledge of syslog collection and familiarization with Splunk search language
  • Familiarity with Splunk architecture and best practices
  • Familiarity with installing and troubleshooting ACAS backend
  • Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, and BMC Remedy
  • Experience working in classified environments
