Deputy Program Manager


AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Federal Agencies, such as the department of Veterans Affairs, improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Deputy Program Manager to support our customers.


Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have diverse PMO leadership experience and must be well-versed in managing diverse program needs. The candidate will provide management oversight for a complex, multi-contractor PMO effort involving implementation of a COTS solution. Strong organizational management, leadership, reporting, and problem-solving skills are necessary for success. The Deputy PM will be responsible for the overall performance and success of the project including, but not limited to: the day-to-day management of overall contract; managing financial and administrative aspects of the contract; project staffing, staff assignments, performance management; deliverables, customer relations, internal reporting, and risk management. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing customer relationships and providing project direction and leadership across all teams
  • Managing to cost, schedule, and performance
  • Collaborating with teams across the customer organization to improve processes, results, and customer experience
  • Effectively leading technical professionals, leading resolution of complex issues
  • Ensuring execution of quality deliverables within established schedules
  • Identifying, reporting, monitoring, and mitigating risks to the program
  • Anticipating client needs and formulating solutions
  • Translating highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Working with all stakeholders to scope work, identify appropriate resources, track and report progress, develop schedules, and communicate to customers
  • Experience developing dashboard and progress status reports for a variety of audiences
  • Supporting the recruiting, staffing, and onboarding of resources onto the effort
  • Performing supervisory duties for assigned personnel to include training, performance reviews, etc.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience on a project with at least 5 or more members; eight (8) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Exceptional experience working in an Agile software development methodology
  • Able to define and implement project metrics for scope, schedule, cost, and quality
  • Experience supporting business development and proposal activities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership ability with solid interpersonal skills and demonstrable team building skills
  • Strong financial and budget management skills
  • Experience must also include:
    • DoD and VA Healthcare experience
    • Managing a geographically distributed team
    • Must be familiar with risk management and have a proven track record in successful project execution
  • Must be able to travel when needed
  • Selected candidate must be able to successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting.

  • Master's degree or advanced Professional Degree
  • PMP
