As far back as grade school, Shawn loved computers—he was largely self-taught until college. However, he felt a call towards journalism, so he chose that as his major instead, and continued honing his tech skills on the side. As it turns out, Shawn was onto something—this combination of skills was exactly what USA TODAY saw for the future of journalism.
Shawn’s mission is clear—to inform—and to do so in a visually compelling manner. In a world overloaded with information, he and his team use the web as a medium to provide clarity, context, and understanding to readers. After each project is published, Shawn assesses what went well and what could be done better. Since he considers creativity to be the team’s mandate, novel solutions and out-of-the-box graphics are commonplace.
