When it came time to find a job, all signs pointed to Ultimate Software. Several of Steve’s college pals interned with the company, and an Ultimate director had taught software engineering at the university Steve attended. Between the two, he knew his TechSTARS experiences were steps in the right direction. After two internships over a period of eight months, Steve was hired full-time.
Steve’s day starts at 9 AM with a stand-up meeting to organize project priority. Then, Steve joins forces with other engineers to test tax-engine features created by the team—often in a pair-programming setup. Since he previously built in-house tools for system testing as an intern, Steve’s familiar with Ultimate's pace and “People First” approach, in terms of work life and engineering standards.
“You can have the best job in the world, but if the people aren’t great, it’s not a perfect 10. Working here is like having more family—you stay to work with your family.”
“We’ve been recognized for our culture—like ‘Best Workplaces in Technology’ and ‘Best Workplaces for Diversity.’ You hear about these lists on the outside, but experiencing the selflessness and kindness here shows where those awards come from.”
