The Broad Residency in the World
Being A Broad Resident
Residents take on a wide range of work, including strategic planning, overseeing complex programs, and overhauling budgeting processes. Residents are tasked with leading initiatives that require strong analytical skills and the ability to manage projects and teams. These work environments demand empathetic leaders who possess the courage to face challenge, the humility to struggle, and the confidence to continue.
What The Broad Residency Does
The Broad Residency 101
The Broad Residency is a national leadership development program that places participants into managerial positions in public school systems. By taking on roles within the system, participants lead transformation efforts to improve public education for all children. Concurrent with the role, Residents participate in two years of cohort-based professional development.
Outside the Office
Nearly 90 percent of Residency alumni continue to work in public education, making a significant impact as leaders within their organizations. Alumni of The Broad Residency have access to a wide range of professional services—including executive coaching, in-person gatherings, career services, and an online knowledge sharing community.

“Initially, being part of a cohort of 50 people was daunting. But the experiences in the program that have been incredibly uncomfortable on a personal level pushed me in ways that have made me a stronger professional.”

“As a first-generation immigrant and proud product of public schools, I know how powerful education can be in lifting families out of poverty and creating community leaders.”

“The Residency helped me enter education at the right level. You reach a stage in your career where it is difficult to imagine taking an entry-level job in a new industry.”
