Smiling Faces
Johnneca came to Success Academy from a previous school following the recommendation of her Teach for America advisor. She began as an Associate Teacher within the Teacher Residency Program and quickly advanced to her current Lead Teacher role, with the help of real-time teacher coaching. Johnneca is looking forward to teaching first grade next year, moving up with her current students and continuing to see them grow and learn.

What Johnneca Does
Lead Teacher, Teacher Resident
For a teacher like Johnneca, the fun starts at the front door every morning. She guides her kindergarten learners through a number of educational activities—such as hands-on math workshops and "number stories." She also reads new books to the class and holds classroom discussions. One class favorite was a unit on bread, which spanned from learning about the ingredients and how it's made to taste-testing in-person at a bakery.

"The culture here is very joyful—children love learning—but it also pushes students and teachers to rise to their full potential. We all feel supported and we all help each other—and we all hold each other accountable to make sure we do our best."

"My principal comes around to the classrooms to give feedback and advice on lessons, and then I'm able to apply it right away. We've developed a strong relationship—she always wants the best for me because me being my best means I'm being my best for my scholars."
