In college, Richard studied physics before starting his career in theater, writing, and performing comedy. He began programming professionally several years ago—but as a kid, he used to write code for fun. Richard joined SoundCloud recently, after a friend working as a web developer told him all about the opportunity.
Richard arrives at the office at 10 AM and catches up on emails before participating in a stand-up meeting. The meeting gives him and his fellow developers a chance to discuss recent project work, as well as any potential roadblocks on the horizon. After lunch, Richard may pair up with another developer or do some solo work. He also helps with onboarding and trains new hires on his team.
“We all love solving hard problems. My team is a really good group—we’re all friendly and we work really well together.”
"My favorite thing about the people I work with is they're very smart, and they're dedicated, but they're very kind, and there's no hero culture. There's none of that 'we want rockstars' nonsense. Everyone pitches in, everyone understands that we're all in this together."
