Michael went to the University of Houston, where he majored in music, focusing specifically on jazz performance. After graduation, he worked as a professional musician before pursuing a master’s degree at the University of North Texas. Eager for a new pace of life, he moved to New York City, where he found a home at Shutterstock.
Michael started at Shutterstock on the Operations and Facilities Team. The more he learned about the business, however, the more he became interested in the technology side of things. After a year and a half, he transitioned to the Business Administration Team, where he’s really enjoyed working on products that help his colleagues do their jobs better.
“The one piece of advice I have for anyone looking to switch teams at Shutterstock—or really anywhere—is to be as ambitious as possible. I came in and had this desire to learn as much as I could, so I kept asking questions and meeting people. They saw that I had a lot of drive and passion, so they took me under their wing and gave me a chance.”
“The one definitive thing that really attracted me to Shutterstock was the tech industry vibe. We sell a lot of really cool products, but really empower our programmers to be as innovative and creative as possible.”
