Although Alex was originally a biology major, he decided to jump into computer science when the web exploded. After his graduation, he moved to San Francisco, where he began his career by building sites at CNET. Alex also explored product management and non-profit web development before Scribd’s fast-paced, experimental culture pulled him in.
Alex works solo during the office quiet time every morning. He reads emails around 10 AM, then leads multiple rounds of 10-minute stand-ups with Developer Teams. Alex nudges projects along, unblocks obstacles, and frees up the flow of communication. During team lunch, he plays pinball, and rounds out his day leading individual reviews and launch meetings on afternoons.
