Melissa has over 11 years of public accounting experience. Her interest in accounting began in high school, and she knew she wanted to pursue a career in the field. When she came to Porte Brown, Melissa started in the Audit Department, where she realized auditing was her true calling, though she still creates business and tax return preparations.
Melissa is usually out in the field, working with a variety of clients and industries with her team of three or four people. Together, Melissa and her team spend their time auditing financial statements or reviewing the work papers of clients. A large part of Melissa’s day involves asking and answering questions, making sure the client understands what to do moving forward.
“A project that I worked on involved a client who had a catastrophic event—one of the client’s manufacturing facilities caught fire and burned to the ground. Porte Brown was instrumental in helping the client record the insurance proceeds they received for book and tax purposes.”
“You need to be dedicated to your career to be successful at Porte Brown. If you’re dedicated, you’ll have promotional opportunities and you’ll be able to gain more knowledge about your clients.”
