When faced with a problem early in her career, Maira realized she was destined for an engineering career. She was producing a weekly statistics report with pen and paper—an incredibly time-consuming and tedious task—and knew she could automate the process with a computer. This moment moment motivated her to learn how to program, which eventually led her to her job at Pandora.
Maira likes to start every morning by checking her email and calendar to map out her day. Most of her days are peppered with meetings to ensure Pandora’s platform is operating as effectively as possible. She also meets one-on-one with each of her engineers weekly to check in with them on their projects and professional development.
“There‘s something about music that enables you to think about programming in a different way. It allows you to approach it and break it down and develop skills like learning to practice and be disciplined.”
