Ever since his first computer science course in high school, Vik has known he wanted to make a career out of technology. Interning with NextCapital during the summer of his junior year, Vik was offered a position the following winter, enabling him to begin his career at a proper startup.
As a front-end software engineer, Vik spends his days doing what he loves—creating code. Coming in around 9:30 AM, he immediately starts programming, has meetings to discuss feature-implementation, and often has feedback discussions with designers to ensure he’s implementing their designs to match all specifications—all before relaxing with colleagues over table-tennis at day’s end.
“Since it’s really hands-off here and pretty laid-back, you have to have a strong work ethic, because when you’re left to your own devices, you have to complete your goals and tasks, and be really self-driven. I think that’s the most important thing. ”
“A lot of times here, after work, we’ll just hang around in the kitchen and play table tennis or bags. There’s a book club, and someone’s starting a film club. There’s always something going on—whatever you’re interested in, you can find your niche.”
