Mixing Two Passions
Emily’s always had a fascination with journalism, but after taking her first high school computer science course, she became equally fascinated by STEM studies. Later, as a Columbia student, Emily heard NewsCred’s founders present at a conference. Realizing she’d found the best mix of both worlds, she immediately pursued an internship with NewsCred and was hired after graduation.

Emily has the unique opportunity of working not only with her in-house colleagues from NYC but also with NewsCred’s overseas office in Bangladesh. Days often begin with a teleconference across the world, with Emily coming into the office later. Once she’s arrived, she partakes in a stand-up meeting, collaborates with team members, and spends much of her day writing and reviewing code.

“We’re a very playful group. We work really hard, but we also joke around and have a great time. We play a lot of board games and have a very competitive Settlers of Catan league.”

“I really like the planning process, when we get to go into a room to whiteboard and come up with a whole new solution. Discussing a plan, the challenges, the pros and cons—that problem-solving process is interesting to me.”
