Curtis’s Story
Nature Lover
Curtis is a card-carrying nature lover. In college, he pursued environmental and wildlife ecology management while working at Clearwater Nature Center. His passion for teaching others eventually led him to graduate school, where he researched river otter habitats. After returning to Maryland, Curtis learned of an opening in the Aquarium’s Conservation Department—the position “just felt right.”

Conservation Project Manager
Working in the Conservation Department, Curtis’ daily schedule varies according to season. In spring and fall, he spends the day doing fieldwork, planting trees, and conducting wildlife searches. Curtis uses winter months to research different grant opportunities, and in the summer, he runs the Aquarium’s internship program, which exposes students in Baltimore to careers in conservation.

“I really enjoy seeing people’s faces when they see wildlife for the first time—and seeing how that changes their perspective and their sense of place.”

“Sometimes in cities and urban settings, the idea of nature can be lost. We want to show residents that not only is nature around us—but it’s thriving.”
