Virginia wanted to be an accountant ever since she solved her first equation and discovered a passion for numbers. While pursuing that passion at GMU, Virginia learned about an opening at Koons from the brother of her boyfriend. Starting as a receptionist, Virginia worked her way up to accounts payable, then manager, and eventually controller.
Virginia starts each day by checking her emails, on the lookout for any issues from customers or department heads—then taking action to resolve those issues. That’s all before running reports and helping her staff of six tackle compliance, accounting, and internal control projects, like helping Koons become a paperless company. When she isn’t optimizing the financials, Virginia mentors her fellow accountants.
“The Koons organization is very big on integrity—we practice it, and believe we should be transparent to our customers. It’s one of the qualities we find most important in every employee we have here.”
“I love numbers—I love the challenge of finding solutions to a problem, making things balanced and logical.”
