Martha’s Story
Passion For Global Health
Martha migrated from Ghana to the U.S. to study chemistry. Her exposure to pharmaceutical drug development as a Yale PhD student coupled with her personal passion for global health influenced her career path. Martha connected with a GSK employee during a conference for black scientists while in graduate school. Impressed with GSK’s diseases of the developing world research, she sought out GSK for a role in pharmaceuticals—rather than in academia—upon completing her studies.

“As a manager, I’m setting my direct reports up for success and to be empowered by providing the right kind of support for their development. There’s a real transparency and supportive atmosphere in discussing capability gaps and development areas and then empowering my employees to develop robust plans to address their development needs.”

“When I interviewed, I really felt a level of authenticity in the connections that I made with the people at GSK. After 13 years, I still find that to be true.”
