A Textured Team
Discovery knows that successful companies support strong, interpersonal connections. And so, the company hosts frequent team-building functions and group gatherings in its many communal areas. Discovery strives to make everyone feel included and valued—supporting resource groups like priDe, Black Cultural Alliance, Discovery Veterans Group, and Women’s Leadership Network for the many demographics represented within its community.
Keeping Good Karma
Discovery Communications views itself as an active member of a global community, and initiatives enabling employees to give back are both popular and frequent. Co-workers collaborate on programs like Say Yes To Prom—where women donate formal dresses to girls in need—and Creating Change—a 12-hour pro bono creative marathon where the company lends its talents to a variety of nonprofit organizations—working to be positive influences in the world at large.
Personal creative growth is important to Discovery, and through its Kaleidoscope Program, the company offers free classes and events to help its team look at the world differently. From African dance classes and chocolate making lessons to water coloring, fly-fishing, and improv seminars, employees get the opportunity to connect with their creative sides and keep Discovery’s culture open, explorative, and dynamic.
Discovery boasts an in-house wellness center and a child-care facility—to show how much it values the amazing talents of its team and to make sure members stay happy and healthy. Employees appreciate that they can see primary care doctors, pick up prescriptions, attend health and wellness seminars, and have their young children cared for all in the comfort and convenience of their office.
“We have several employee resource groups at Discovery, and they seek to bring employees with like interests together so they feel supported.”
“The company’s hosted a lot of cool things outside in the garden like BBQs, dunk tanks, pet adoption expos, and weekly exercise boot camps. We always have a ton of fun.”
