We work & teach all across the country
Teaching Fellows support public school teachers, both during the traditional school day and during extended learning time hours, to bridge the disparity between opportunities available to students from low-income communities and their more affluent peers. Fellows also deepen connections between schools and parents, develop social emotional skills by mentoring and coaching students, and work alongside caring Citizen Teachers to facilitate the delivery of hands-on learning opportunities.
What Citizen Schools Does
Citizen Schools 101
Citizen Schools is dedicated to helping all children discover and achieve their dreams. By partnering with Citizen Schools, public middle schools across the nation add about 400 hours of instructional time to the school day—creating extraordinary enrichment and academic opportunities that build the skills, access, and beliefs children need to thrive as students and succeed as adults. Citizen Schools positions young adults for success by connecting the resources of local communities, companies, governments, and philanthropies.
Citizen Schools in the World
Student Role Reversal
Every semester, Citizen Schools students participate in 10-week apprenticeships taught by volunteer Citizen Teachers. Over the course of the apprenticeships, students transform into designers, lawyers, advisers, and much more, learning first-hand how their current academics apply to future pathways. Afterwards, the students take part in "WOW!" events where they get to teach their teachers, parents, and community what they learned.
