Graduating with degrees in economics and philosophy from the University of Toronto at the height of the first tech bubble, Daniel was excited by the entrepreneurial spirit of those around him. After earning a coding certification, Daniel developed websites and consulted clients. BlackRock hired one of these clients in forming a Tech Team in APAC—a team Daniel would later join himself.
One of the biggest challenges for Daniel and his team is understanding the nature of their clients’ needs, preferences, and market technologies. BlackRock drives this tech from one platform, so Daniel and his team must strike a balance, knowing when and how to implement flexibility into new products—while still enabling global scalability.
“BlackRock engages our engineering community to create and drive new ideas and truly take ownership to develop those ideas. The support for the engineering community is massive.”
“Every year, we have a global Hackathon, where anybody in the firm, on a Tech Team or not, can come up with a great idea—to help our clients, our employees, or any sort of great technological innovation. It’s a major event that the firm invests in.”
