Mary’s Story
Making The Big Switch
Mary completed a master’s degree in computer science before becoming a software engineer at Siemens. Following that, she held various roles at other data center infrastructure vendors, before a former colleague mentioned Big Switch—which created a similar product to her then-current company, but with a different architecture. Mary was drawn to the Big Switch vision to solve these challenging problems, which was a catalyst to her joining the company.

Mary has the opportunity to touch multiple projects at one time, since BSN doesn’t rely on 20-year-old code and instead creates products from scratch using modern tools along the way. In fact, Mary’s main goal isn’t matching competitors—it’s using a different approach to fashion products that suit today’s needs, like the multicast feature she helped bring to life.
