James grew up in Sydney, Australia and studied industrial design. Over time, he evolved from industrial design to service and strategic design. James was part of a company that BCG Digital Ventures acquired three years ago, and he’s since traveled the globe and worked with clients from various industries as a full-time employee.
James’s role is to connect consumer needs with empathy and technology with value. His role can best be described as “structured creativity” in that he’s always thinking of ways to bring together the best of multiple disciplines in creating a product, service, or new business—something that resonates with customers and delivers great market value.
“I’ve seen Digital Ventures grow a lot in just the past three years since. In five to ten years, I think we’ll not only be part of the next phase in these industries but we’ll also set the tone for what that is, in terms of design, technology, and industry breakthroughs.”
“My advice for someone coming in to an interview is to have a very clear picture of what they want in the future. But also, think big. It’s okay that it’s a dream right now—the most important thing is to not forget what your broader vision is and how you’re going to try and get there.”
