Austin Film Festival employees watch a ton of movies, but one of their favorite activities is getting to screen new movies before their release. According to Executive Director Barbara Morgan—who has been with AFF since its founding in 1994—this intimate and interactive experience is part of what makes AFF special—connecting audiences with the creative writing talents that brought their visions to life.

What Austin Film Festival Does
Austin Film Festival 101
Founded in 1994, Austin Film Festival is the first organization of its kind to focus on writers’ creative contributions to film. Originally centered around launching the careers of screenwriters—a historically underrepresented group—AFF has now grown to serve all filmmakers, supporting the Austin arts community through year-round programming, cultural events, and long-lasting community partnerships.
