A Passion For Music
Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, JJ studied political science at Morehouse College in Atlanta, planning to attend law school and become an entertainment lawyer. But he instead found a job at a record label in New York, and then came over to ASCAP, where he's worked for the past six years.

Any given day could find JJ in the studio with a songwriter, looking for new talent at a show, or putting together an event for ASCAP members. The work is varied—JJ splits his time between working in-office and out in the field, meeting with producers, writers, executives, and lawyers—but the common theme is helping music creators pursue their passions.

"One of the things my co-workers and I do for fun is a great happy hour. We also go to shows—being in New York City, there's a show every night. There's so much talent here."

"The goal of ASCAP is to advocate for songwriters and music creators—to fight for their rights. I feel music is the lifeblood of society—we need songs, and we need songwriters."
