Smashbox Cosmetics is the only beauty brand born out of a real photo studio—the legendary Smashbox Studios in LA—and creating gorgeous looks is what the team there does. These folks know consumers’ lives can be as crazy and demanding as Smashbox’s photo shoots, so they develop makeup for everyone that feels great to wear every day—from the set to the street.
Smashbox believes in empowering its team members. In addition to assuming ownership over projects, team members also get ample opportunities to gain new expertise—and if they need support, management listens. Mentorship and collaboration have always been a big part of the company culture, which makes taking risks for bigger rewards truly feasible.
“There’s still so much Smashbox can do. I believe that we can be the number one brand in our channel, and I believe the people here are the right team to take us there,” says Ginny Chien, Executive Director of Global Consumer Marketing at Smashbox Cosmetics.
“[But,] check [your] ego at the door,” she adds. “You have to come in, be open, accept the fact that you work with some outstanding people, and jump right into it.”
