“At Placemeter, you really feel the product’s potential—it feels like you’re working on something big and important,” says product manager David Fine.
And what is that product? Placemeter uses video to analyze pedestrian and vehicular movement and find hidden patterns and strategic opportunities. Its mission is to help build stronger businesses, more efficient cities, and more innovative neighborhoods around the world.
Many of the employees at Placemeter have impressive backgrounds. For example, the current head of marketing, Melissa Sanchot, founded an organic and fair trade restaurant before joining the company. Senior software engineer Avi Hoffman worked in Google’s nonprofit sector for six years. We think it’s fair to say that, despite the diversity of backgrounds and talents, the team is united by a desire to positively impact their communities.
And another thing fostering a close work culture? All of Placemeter’s cool traditions.
From digging in to delicious Parisian treats and wine to crash courses in urban design and frequent “lunch and learns,” there’s always a fun communal activity going on.
Onboarding is an equally social affair. New hire welcoming rituals consist of team bonding and blending—packed with celebratory happy hours, friendly team lunches, and spontaneous all-team ice cream breaks.
