As your scrolling fingers can attest, photos are the best new way to tell stories. And if you want to create a good story, you have to tell (or filter) it right. Instagram’s no longer just a forum for posting cute pictures of you and your friends apple picking or a lunar eclipse. Well, that is, if you can rack in enough likes and comments to attract the right kind of attention to your profile.
Based on a study of 1.5 million Instagram photos from over 500,000 Instagrammers, the more tags you have, the more you “like” and “comment,” and the—get this—fewer filters you use, the better chances you’ll have to get more likes and comments on your photos. More interaction means you have a more powerful presence. And who wouldn’t want to hire someone who knows how to brand and promote him- or herself?
