It’s no secret that a certain kind of over-accessorizing has been in the past couple of years—with ladies in the know and bloggers aplenty showing up everywhere in stacks upon stacks of bracelets (a.k.a. “arm parties”), layered statement necklaces, and fingers full of rings the size of dinner plates.
Recently, however, there’s been a subtle shift to more minimalistic accessorizing, which is quite a relief! Instead of impulse buying handfuls of leather wrap and spiked bracelets, think about streamlining your accessories and investing in pieces that are personal, beautiful, and understated. Not only will you be on-trend and sophisticated, but you won't have to waste extra time every morning deciding which 20 bracelets to slip on your wrist before dashing off to work.
Modern, Simple Studs
Flashy and loud earrings can certainly be fun worn with a tee and jeans or a cocktail dress. But to best compliment your classy work wear, go for simple studs that you can easily leave in or throw on every day. Don’t just leave your grandmother’s pearls in day in and day out, though—find ones that have a modern or personal twist.
Chic and Sleek Earrings
If you’re not a studs gal, there are so many beautiful and super-modern larger earrings that can be worn every day. Find a pair in a solid metal with no bells and whistles—just clean and modern silhouettes. Most of the ones I’ve found don’t even have backings or posts! Just slip them on, and you’re ready to go.
A couple of years ago, I bought two very thin gold-filled bands and haven’t taken them off since I got them. Some people think that you have to wear a huge cocktail ring to make a statement, but I think simplicity sometimes does the job even better. You can stack many very thin rings or just wear one or two. I prefer plain bands, but a tiny initial or stone can be beautiful as well.
Just because you’re not stacking on the statement necklaces doesn’t mean you have to stop the layering altogether! Collect a few delicate chains that have special meaning to you (and are different lengths, so they’ll be visible no matter what you’re wearing), and wear them in rotation (or together) to work and for more formal occasions. You can even put several small pendants that you collect onto one dainty chain—sort of like the necklace version of a charm bracelet.
A Good Watch
Chunky and menswear-inspired or dainty on a leather band, having a classic watch that you love not only gives you a functional everyday accessory, but also signals that you’re a responsible adult. Plus, it’s much less rude to keep an eye on the time via your watch than by pulling out your phone every couple of seconds.
