Shopify’s philosophy—that anyone can engage in commerce—positions the company well to revolutionize the retail industry. The fact that users can customize the platform to suit their specific business needs makes Shopify stand out in the e-commerce space. This company democratizes commerce, allowing anybody to be an entrepreneur, create their own online store, and sell stuff.
“The main goal of Shopify is to make it easier for everyone to do commerce. So, whether you’re selling in your store, you’re selling online, you want to sell on social media, or you want to sell to just your closest friends, it doesn’t matter—it should just be easy,” shares Simon Eskildsen, Production Engineering Lead.
Shopify is able to achieve this goal, in large part, thanks to its “go-getter” culture. “It’s really encouraged for you to be motivated and passionate and to drive forward on those ideas. It’s a place where you can bring those ideas up and a lot of people around you will make sure they can help you make it actually come to fruition,” says Omosola Odetunde, Developer of Risk Operations. “It doesn’t really matter where you are in the Shopify hierarchy, if you have a cool idea you can basically get it up as high as you want.”
And Shopify recognizes that everyone works in different ways, so the office is built for diversity. This provides the perfect environment for creating and fostering new ideas. The headquarters offers game rooms, quiet nooks and work areas, larger meeting spaces, and a yoga studio (among other things).
And when they aren’t making the retail world easier to navigate for everyone, team members are having fun by participating in activities such as Pixel Art Wars and creating murals out of Post-it notes.
