Make, Sell, and Drink Great Craft Beer With a Job at Dogfish Head
Dogfish Head redefines how people enjoy beer through a spread of unique craft recipes. The company brews, bottles, and kegs at the brewery, giving patrons that fresh-from-the-barrel taste. Dogfish’s flavors and off-centered culture have made it the 13th-largest craft brewery in the country—and climbing.
Not only is the company successful, but it’s also a lot of fun to work at. The team emphasizes creating a community by holding regular group events, such as the Post-Holiday Holiday Party, “Beer-Thirty” get-togethers every Friday, and weekly hangouts in beautiful coastal Delaware. Oh, and each employee gets an entire case of beer with every paycheck!
While the access to tasty brews is an awesome perk, the company’s management is a highlight, as well. According to Matt Funk, the Regional Sales Manager for Delaware, those in leadership positions “empower us to make sure we have everything we need, [and they] also empower us to make the decisions on our own. And if it’s something that’s super, super serious, we can ask those guys and make sure they can guide us in the right direction.”
One way in which managers help to support their teams is by providing regular feedback. “One thing Dogfish has implemented since I’ve been here is a pretty stealthy review process, which is nice,” shares Ashley Di Michele, Event Planner and Coordinator. “Because you meet with your managers frequently, and therefore you’re on the same page and you can kind of track your goals and work on them together. And at the end of the year, there’s no question of ‘Did I nail my job, or was I OK at my job?’”
In short: It’s a great place to work. “We’re really a tight-knit crew. It’s really beautiful, the kinds of relationships that blossom when you work here. It really is like a family,” says Di Michele. “Being able to lean on a co-worker like a family member is awesome.”
