Swirl is an independently owned and full-spectrum ideas agency—offering clients advertising, marketing, communications, retail experiences, and brand actions. With a belief in putting people first, Swirl works to push brand success for both national and international clients via brand action.
“You’re going to be defined by your actions, not by the things that you say you’re going to do, but by the things that you actually do,” says Tom Sebastian, Co-CEO and Chief Creative Officer. “And companies are in this place today where those exact values apply. And that is what we’ve adopted for Swirl as our mantra—‘Do’ versus ‘Say.’”
This mantra applies to the company culture as well, as leadership at Swirl actively tries to create a collaborative, healthy, and passionate environment for employees. Bonding is encouraged both within departments and team to team and is further supported with several organized company events, such as bowling, knitting, and softball, as well as traditions, such as peer-nominated “Matty Awards” given for demonstrating outstanding company value.
And one of the best parts about Swirl is that each employee’s ideas are extremely valued. “Swirl really fosters imagination amongst its employees. People from any walk of life, any discipline here at Swirl, are allowed to contribute ideas,” says Amy Law, Associate Creative Director. “To me, opening up that broader scope of where an idea can come from just speaks to the quality of work we do at Swirl and also the holistic nature of how we treat our clients.”
The company’s focus on staff bonding, acceptance, and inclusiveness has really paid off. “Swirl is the most human place I’ve ever worked. People are here to celebrate and share in both good and bad times with you, which makes you want to come back. It makes you want to work that much harder,” Law says. “You grow to love and adore the people you work with, and to me that just makes Swirl an incredibly special place.”
