When you hear the name Farmers Insurance, you likely can’t help but to think of the ridiculously catchy jingle. But, this company does so much more than get snappy tunes stuck in your head.
Since 1928, Farmers has provided millions of U.S. households with vehicle, home, life, and business insurance, as well as a variety of other financial products. What’s its magical secret for success? Well, quite simply, the team here always focuses on people. “Farmers is about the people. It’s about their customers, and it’s about their employees,” shares staffer Nicki Galentine.
Yes, Farmers prides itself on being incredibly customer-focused, and it recognizes that client satisfaction is typically the direct result of helpful, enthusiastic workers. So, Farmers places great emphasis on ensuring that its employees feel like valued contributors—starting from the top. “Every employee is held to the same standards,” explains Cynthia Guan, Director of Product Management, “Management is open to hearing and implementing employee ideas that may improve business. We have an open door policy culture that encourages curiosity and action.”
Outside of the office, Farmers is also dedicated to consistently helping team members grow and evolve in their professional lives. Leadership believes strongly in career development, and the company even offers tuition assistance programs and a scholarship that Farmers employees and their children can apply for.
And, Farmers doesn’t just talk the talk when it comes to its philosophy of “People helping people.” It walks the walks, too. Employees have the option to contribute to the Farmers Family Fund, so that other staff members can then apply to receive those funds when they’re facing tough times—such as the death of a spouse or overwhelming medical bills.
Even though the team at Farmers continuously strives for success and collaboration, the company doesn’t believe in fostering a stiff atmosphere of all work and no play. Offering everything from annual Farmers anniversary celebrations and coordinated team activities, to the always popular “Bring Your Kid to Work Day,” Farmers never forgets to reward employees for their hard work with a little bit of fun!
