It’s 8 AM on a Tuesday and you’ve hit snooze at least five times. When you finally wake up, you realize that not only are you going to be late, you have absolutely zero clue what to wear! After all, pulling together a great work outfit can be hard enough if you have all the time in the world, so what do you do when you only have a matter of minutes?
In part two of our interview series with the style-savvy Kristyn Schiavone, we’ll give you some spot-on tips and tricks for always being ready to dress and dash to work.
The Advice
“When I’m rushed, I always reach for a dress—that way you only have to choose one article of clothing instead of two. I have a khaki shirtdress that goes with almost every pair of shoes I own, so I just change up the shoes and it makes for a super easy outfit. It works year-round, so in the winter I wear it with tights. You can do the same with a tunic dress.
If you’re in a casual office, skinny jeans with a blazer always looks sharp. I would also advise collecting tops and bottoms in different bright colors, because in this fashion climate they can all be paired together, making a new combo each day even if you’re essentially wearing the same thing.
My last piece of advice is to buy a chambray shirt because the color and style can go with absolutely anything, from a bright yellow pencil skirt to brocade cigarette pants.”
The Outfits
Shirtdresses are simple, chic, and a quick solution when you’re in a hurry—not to mention they work with nearly every type of shoe. When the weather gets chillier, pair with patterned tights (or solid tights if you work in a more conservative workplace) and boots. You’ll be ready to go!
If you work in a more casual workplace (or it’s Friday), pull out your trusty dark wash skinny jeans and a fun blazer. Pair with a white button down or white t-shirt to keep things simple, yet chic.
Love color? Mix and match all of your brightly colored tops and bottoms! Take a weekend afternoon to pull them all out and make note of which color combinations you like so you can throw them on quickly. Wear any of these looks with a pair of versatile nude or black shoes.
We’ve said it once, we’ll say it 100 times—chambray goes with everything. A chambray button-up works well not only under sweaters and long sleeved shirts (hello fall layering!), but also under a sleeveless dress for a tunic effect.
