Saving the internet, fighting crime—all in a day’s work for a Siftie. Sift Science uses data patterns found in fraudulent activity to prevent fraud for its clients, which include Airbnb, OpenTable, Kickstarter, and Match.com.
However, as a Sift employee, you aren’t just helping people. You’re also changing the very nature of safety and fraud prevention. “Watching where we go is going to be a night and day difference, and that’s really exciting,” says Aaron Beppu, a software engineer. “It’s a rocket ship.” (But don’t just take his word for it—take the word of industry experts, who gave the company an award for Best Emerging Technology.)
Web superheroes they may be, but Sifties definitely don’t show up to work in capes and masks. This office has a strict t-shirt dress code, which reflects the easygoing atmosphere. “Our management tends to be laid-back and low-touch,” Beppu says. “We’re very conscientious about making sure that the way we work is friendly and collaborative.”
The Sift Science team gets lots of opportunities to take those friendships outside the 9-to-5 work day, from hikes and board game nights to quarterly hackathons. “One of the things that stood out to me about Sift’s culture is that the engineers and the non-engineers hang out together—which isn’t the case in many companies,” says Yoav Schatzberg.
