Pastel hues, flowy fabrics, and feminine shapes are just some of the many stylish reasons we love spring. And this season’s trends incorporate them all! Better yet, they’re as perfect for the workplace as they are for warm-weather walks in the park.
Take a cue from one of our favorite fashion bloggers, Blair of Atlantic-Pacific, and see how to easily incorporate these refreshing spring trends into your usual office attire.
1. Black & White
Black and white was all over the runways for spring, and it’s one of the easiest trends to pull off at the office—the classic contrast creates clean lines and adds sophisticated drama to your work attire. Be like Blair and coordinate solid black and white pieces together, or throw on a color-blocked B&W blouse with your usual pencil skirt. For extra polish, pick a pair of chic contrasting flats, chain-linked bangles, or a silk scarf.
2. Floral Prints
This is the print of the season, and it’s our go-to for everything from blazers to a feminine dress. Just be sure that if you’re going floral from head to toe, break it up with a jacket and belt like Blair. If you’re going for just a hint of this garden-inspired print, try a pair of slacks with floral pumps, wrap a punchy floral scarf around your neck, or throw on a rosette satchel to top off your look. Looking to spring-ify a winter dress or sweater? Grab a glitzy, flower-embellished statement necklace for a fresh update.
Leather was in last fall and winter, and it’s still really big for spring, too. To keep things work appropriate (and not too femme fatale), try mixing leather with girly silhouettes, like peplum, fit-and-flare, or pleated shapes. Also, make sure to pick just one leather piece. For work, it’s always easy to tone down leather by pairing it with a feminine blouse, soft cardigan, or floral prints. We love Blair’s lightweight sweater and leather skirt look, all the way down to her black and gold accessories!
4. Bold Stripes
When wearing thick bold stripes, keep the rest of your look low-key with solid colors and classic shapes (so you don’t look like you belong under a circus tent!). Blair pairs her striped dress with bright spring colors like yellow and pink—a definite do! Wear bold stripes with classic pearls and diamonds, or pile on the chunky metal jewelry for an effortlessly cool look. If you’re just warming up to this trend, start off slow with a clutch, watch, or striped scarf, instead.
5. Punchy Brights
There’s nothing better than switching out your winter blacks, grays, and browns for spring’s punchy hues! Adapt Blair’s monochromatic pink-and-purple outfit by picking a brighter focal point—like a bold pair of slacks or a sweater—and pairing it with lighter shades of the same hue, like a pastel pumps or a skirt. For just a touch of the season’s brightest shades, we’re always fans of a statement necklace, envelope bag, chevron scarf, or lipstick in these hues.
