Assistant Plant Manager

POSITION INFORMATION:

Job Purpose:

Assist in overall management of the facility. Ensure the operation produces quality products that meet or exceed the customers' expectations and requirements. Operate the facility's assets to maximize efficiency and profitability. Responsible for assisting in day-to-day operational decision making for day or night production.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven track record as a salaried manager in operations and management required
  • Knowledge of production and operations, workflow, equipment, and materials
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • High degree of business curiosity; quick learner with a proactive and agile mindset
  • A proven track record of continuous improvement, quality of product, customer service, workplace harmony, and cost containment.
  • Demonstrated process and system improvement skills
  • Proven ability to build working relationships with all levels of employees, within and outside of the production facility
  • An undergraduate degree in operations management, engineering discipline, or related field preferred or equivalent industry work experience

  • Lead, coach, mentor, motivate, develop, and inspire direct reports to achieve optimum results by consistently demonstrating role model behavior.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with commercial printing customers. Understands clients' business processes and objectives. Balances response to clients' requests, requirements, and priorities with adherence to the printing division strategic direction.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with department heads and their line managers.
  • Work with the management team to ensure deadlines and quality goals are met.
  • Develop operational budget and track/monitor key expenses throughout the year.
  • Direct, guide, develop, and support the departmental managers (through coaching and feedback), to enable them to exercise authority and share responsibility.
  • Interprets, communicates, and enforces company policies to workers and enforces company and OSHA safety regulations
  • Gives guidance to managers on departmental budgets (tracking, identifying, implementing cost efficiencies as appropriate)
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production requirements.
  • Drive a culture of performance execution through personal accountability across all manufacturing departments
  • Work with Plant Manager to develop an operating expense budget and capital budget plan.
  • Implements changes in working flow, conditions, and use of equipment to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems looking for opportunities to innovate and improve
  • Ensures that all aspects of procedures and quality objectives are understood and well communicated
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal); leading and presenting complex materials for various audiences
  • Reviews performance against operating plans and standards.
  • Ensures that duties, responsibilities, accountability, and authority of all direct reports are defined and understood.
  • Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of all direct reports
  • Gives guidance to production managers on plant work with other departments to ensure jobs get completed according to specification of the job
  • Involved with the workflow process in other departments to ensure productivity is maximized.
  • Fill in for Plant Manager as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
