PagerDuty is an alarm system that provides immediate notification of server problems to IT administrators and support teams—at any time of night or day.
We work in San Francisco, California.
Office Life
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
PagerDuty takes Spiderman’s catch-phrase to heart. The company likes to see itself as a superhero of the tech world—always stepping in to save the day when a server goes down. Though the first PagerDuty comic book images were sketched just for a conference handout, the superhero artwork stuck, and comic book-themed décor is now all over the office, reminding employees to keep up the heroic effort.
What PagerDuty Does
PagerDuty 101
If a system does go down, PagerDuty lets its users know: An escalation notification system kicks in and provides alerts through SMS, phone, and email to the people who need to know. Internally, PagerDuty has two main teams that work together to provide the PagerDuty service. The Real-Time Team monitors multiple servers and handles incident tracking, so PagerDuty knows right away when anyone’s system is down, and the Product Team designs PagerDuty’s user interface.
“Our product saves server farms from going down. It saves websites from getting a reputation for being unreliable.”

Abstruse Polymath
"There’s a good kind of stress that keeps you pushing yourself. But most of the time, things aren’t as crazy here as you might think, with it being an on-call management company.”
